This week saw the first frost in many parts of the northwest, but the killing frost still has to come to much of the area. Many migrants are moving through the area this week including some of the northern sparrows, thrushes, and the last of the warblers. Weather has for the most part been pleasant fall weather.

In Lake of the Woods County, Ron Erpelding found ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA, and FOX SPARROW  last weekend.

Ron observed a WILD TURKEY  in Beltrami County on the north side of CR 32  just before the intersection with CR 601 and  CR5 several miles east of the Clearwater County line.

A WILD TURKEY  was also seen in Clearwater County. Other species seen in Clearwater County included EARED GREBE, COOPER’S HAWK, MERLIN, and AMERICAN PIPIT.

Here in Pennington County, on September 24, there were many migrating YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS  and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, some NASHVILLE WARBLERS, DARK-EYED JUNCOS, and EASTERN BLUEBIRDS. On September 26, there were many RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS  catching insects in our yard.

Shelley Steva reported more than 100 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS  by the Clearwater River north of Oklee in Red Lake County on September 24. Other species seen that day included RED-TAILED HAWKS, AMERICAN KESTRELS, and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS.

On September 29, Russ Wilbur reported a male EASTERN BLUEBIRD  in East Grand Forks in Polk County.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD  was reported to E-bird by Annette Dreier at Tamarac NWR in Becker County on September 25.

Marshall Howe in Hubbard County reported RING-BILLED GULLS and DARK-EYED JUNCOS on September 25, and migrating WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, FOX SPARROWS, and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS  on September 28. Ron Erpelding found FRANKLIN’S GULLS, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, and LINCOLN’S SPARROWS  there last weekend.

At Elizabeth in Otter Tail County, Teresa Jaskiewicz reported many migrants on September 30 including NORTHERN FLICKERS, AMERICAN ROBINS, CEDAR WAXWINGS, WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, LINCOLN’S SPARROWS, and  YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.

Charlene Nelson in Grant County observed RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, FOX SPARROW, LINCOLN’S SPARROW, SONG SPARROW, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, and NASHVILLE WARBLER  on September 27.
