Minnesota Fishing Report

ice-fishing-csWhile the walleye and northern pike season has closed in the Detroit Lakes area, panfish action remains steady. Some crappie action has been strong in the shallow weeds, with some of the larger crappies found suspended in the deep water basin areas. Small jigs and jigging spoons tipped with minnows, minnow heads, wax worms or small plastic tails seem to be the most consistent producers. Perch are holding tight to bottom off the sharp breaks in the 18-25 feet of water. A few short roads are plowed on Little Detroit, Sallie, Melissa and Cormorant lakes. Travel off the plowed roads will require snowmobiles or track vehicles due to thick snow and slush.
