maplewood-state-parkFall colors are rapidly progressing through the park, with spectacular color this weekend, October 5 & 6. The colorful prairie grasses cover the rolling topography of Maplewood, displaying various shades of gold, purple and brown. The sumacs are particularly red and orange this year. The abundant sugar maples are turning quickly and displaying vibrant shades of orange, red and yellow. The ash trees are adding some early golds and yellows to the mix along the park fields and meadows. One favorite site to visit is the Hallaway Hill Overlook which offers outstanding vistas of clear blue lakes, a mix of hardwood forest, and colorful prairies. Another favorite is the 4.5-mile Scenic Park Drive which winds through a mix prairies, wooded knolls and shady hollows. Vibrant red, orange and gold trees are also visible on a hike along Bass Lake, as well as on most of the 25-miles of hiking trails. Celebrate the fall colors at Maplewood State Park during Leaf Days, and enjoy spectacular fall colors, birding, a variety of other activities, food and fun, September 28 & 29 and October 5 & 6.
